Dress #5 Complete...not my favorite

So the dress is complete, but I don't love it....  It is, however, a great pattern. I'm just not sure I selected the right fabric for the dress.  I loved the floral print on the bolt, but it reads differently in the dress.  My husband saw so many flowers coming at him that he suggested I accent it with green shoes to complete the whole "floral bouquet look."  LOL!!! (trust me, it was hilarious in the moment as I asked for real feedback on the right shoe to wear...:-).  I actually wore it to a friend's wedding and it seemed appropriate for the occasion.  My formal review is below.  Again, great pattern..., but...er...uh...I'm not sure I'll pass this way again....

Pattern Description:
Simplicity's Amazing Fit Collection--one piece dress with waistline seam. Has optional sleeves and necklines, too.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
For the most part, yes. I'm not sure the cut of the dress is flattering for me. I'm not a big fan of seams at the waistline, but it is an adorable dress.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were very easy to follow. The dress came together well and the fit is fantastic!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I absolutely love that the pattern makers included alternate pieces for C and D bra sizes. There are also alternate pieces for slim, average, and curvy figures. The alternate pieces meant I didn't have to make the "dreaded" full bust alteration that is required for "every" outfit I sew. I also love the cap sleeves and optional necklines. I will definitely try another pattern in the "Amazing Fit" collection.

Fabric Used:
I used a floral linen print. I fell in love with the fabric when I found it in Joann's. The "hand of the fabric" was great and it sewed really well. However, I don't think it was the greatest print for the dress. The print comes across as a bit overwhelming to me.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I eliminated the front tab on View C. Because of the busyness of the print, it really got lost in all of the flowers.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?I don't know if I will. If I do, it will be in a navy or black. I think it would be amazing as a "little black dress."

Conclusion:
I "highly recommend" it because I do love the pattern! It sewed up in just a few hours (and I'm pretty slow)! Enjoy

  2. I like the dress and the fabric. I think it looks great on you. I'm going to take a closer look to this pattern, Simplicity 2648. As I look at it on you, I like the fit. I'll have to consider how it would look on my body shape. The more I look at your post, the more I like it. As it gets more into Fall, do you thinking pairing it up with a jacket might change the look?
